Venlo City Breaks

Venlo is a municipality that can be found in the south east of the Netherlands, next to the German border. It is both beautifully rural and flourishingly urban at the same time. Originally it was a simple trading town of little significance but over the years it has become an important junction into Europe.

Many visitors are drawn to enjoy the natural beauty of the area that is part of the northern province of Limburg, situated between the River Mass (Meuse) and the Maasduinen nature reserve with all its lakes, forests and stunning flora and fauna. It is the perfect location for the abundance of market gardens that can be found in its lush surroundings and is an idyllic place in which to spend a relaxing break.

Even the historic centre itself, that was carefully restored after World War II, has a wealth of attractions, from bustling market places, boutique shopping and tasty restaurants surrounding the medieval city hall, and a major appeal has to be the events that take place every year including the Vastenaovend carnival or the Zomerparkfeest arts festival. This year, especially, it is the proud host of the 2012 Floriade.
