There is a great variety of restaurants available in Dubrovnik that cater for every taste and most are very reasonably priced. Many serve traditional dishes that introduce you to the best that Croatia has to offer but there are also the typical staples of other Mediterranean countries that are just as popular. Areas such as Stradun are home to a number of eateries but be aware you are likely to be approached by ‘hawkers’ trying to entice you into nearby restaurants. If you would prefer somewhere a little less touristy then head to the city’s harbour or the gate where more exclusive establishments can be found.

It is not surprising due to its location that Seafood plays a large role on many menus. Fresh fish dishes are very popular but can prove quite expensive. A local specialities is black risotto in squid ink. There are however many meat dishes that deserve attention such as the grilled raznici and cevapcici, or peka (a stew) and the beef dish Pasticada.

For those looking for healthy option, Dubrovnik serves up some great salad dishes and vegetarian options are quite prevalent on menus. While those with a sweet tooth can also find delicious puddings including rozata, which is a local speciality that is similar to a crème caramel. Don’t forget to try the local drinks as well as the local food while you are on your short break in Dubrovnik. Wines and beers are very refreshing but try the local liquor called Rakija that can be made from grapes, walnuts or plums.
