It is no surprise that in a town founded on the site of a former brewery much of the entertainment is centered on the social scene found in the many cafés and bars that are open late into the night. Beer is widely seen as the main export of St Omer which is not surprising as there is a brewery just outside the town that produces the popular ‘Biere de St Omer’, while in the local village of Houlle, the strong ‘Genievre’ (juniper berry liqueur) is produced.
Aside from the bars there are a number of things that you can enjoy on any short break to St Omer, you can visit the nightclub that sits on a boat on the water, enjoy some of the venues that offer live entertainment from theatrical to music performances or perhaps see a film as the multi screen cinema, though you may have to see if any are in English or are with subtitles before you purchase your tickets. Be aware that some of the places are only open at weekends (such as the Discothèque at 5 rue de la Commune de Paris) or during the height of the tourist season.
If you want more choice you may have to head out into the surrounding villages and towns. Seaside resorts are able to offer a full nightclub scene, and Le Touquet has a popular casino. You can even have a go at Ten Pin Bowling in Saint Martin.
