Over recent years Porto has become a magnet to a number of internationally renowned retailers with the opening of new fashionable shopping malls (i.e. Norteshopping Centre in Matosinhos) and in downtown Porto at Rua de Santa Catarina you will find some of the best shopping. The city is now a favourite destination for shopping devotees who can enjoy the mix of modern establishments alongside old traditional markets places.
Daily stalls can be found lining many of the main shopping areas but more specialist markets, such as antiques or art and crafts, are held on a weekly or monthly basis in set locations around the city such as Rua Candido dos Reis and Passeio das Fontainhas.
Porto also has a successful history of its own for producing fashionable clothing, footwear and accessories such as jewellery. Quality products at reasonable prices have been attracting discerning shoppers for years to the boutiques scattered around the city. Porto is obviously famed for its port wine but other attractive products to take home with you, perfect as keepsakes or gifts, include those made locally including ceramics, pottery and linen.
