Lisbon enjoys a Mediterranean-type climate with long hot summers, mild winters and more than 3,000 hours of sunshine a year, although there is always a chance of rain between September and May. The Gulf Stream seems to protect Lisbon from extreme temperatures which can occur in other cities across Portugal but it does still get hot so don’t forget to protect yourself with hats and creams. Spring and Autumn are probably the best time to visit as the weather is comfortable and you miss the huge crowds of mid-summer.
